Which AC tonnage do I need for my room?
The usual rule in Pakistan is 1 ton for rooms up to 120 sq ft, 1.5 ton for 120 to 180 sq ft and 2 ton for 180 to 250 sq ft. Go one size up for a top-floor room, a west-facing wall or a city that crosses 45 °C; ProPakistani's 2026 AC buying guide names Multan among those heatwave cities. One ton equals 12,000 BTU.
A 12x14 room is 168 sq ft, the top of the 1.5 ton band, so the same room on a sunny top floor is a 2 ton job.

How many units does an inverter AC use?
An inverter compressor speeds up and slows down instead of switching fully on and off. The Gree GS-18PITH11S 1.5 ton lists 1,450 W rated cooling input, moving between 350 W and 1,900 W. Take 1.2 kW as a working average on a hot night.
Estimate: 1.2 kW x 8 hours x 30 days = 288 units a month. At the 201 to 300 unit slab rate of Rs 33.10 (as of October 2026, NEPRA tariff decision, February 2026), that is about Rs 9,533 before tax and fuel adjustment. Your whole house's units set the slab, so the AC can move every unit you use into a higher rate. A fixed-speed non-inverter unit runs near full power whenever its compressor is on, which is why it costs more over a summer.
Is a heat-and-cool inverter AC worth it in Multan?
For most homes, yes. Multan's winters are short and mild, which suits heat pumps, because they lose efficiency mainly in hard frost. The same Gree model lists 5,300 W of heat for 1,600 W of input, about 3.3 units of heat per unit of electricity. That makes heat mode roughly a third of the cost of a rod or oil heater for the same warmth, with no gas fumes and no wait for gas pressure.
Protected households should watch the 200-unit line, because crossing it can cost protected status. Check the terms printed on your bill before running heat mode every night.
Gree, Haier, Dawlance, TCL or Orient: what is the difference?
Warranty is the clearest difference on paper. Haier gives units bought from 1 January 2026 a 10-year compressor warranty and 5 years on functional parts, for the original buyer through authorised dealers (Haier Pakistan). Gree's terms vary by model: the GS-18PITH11S spec lists 10 years on the compressor, 4 on the PCB, 2 on the coils and 1 on other parts. Always read the card for the exact model.
Owners commonly report that Gree is strong on build and cooling but priced higher, that Haier and Orient give good value, and that Dawlance has a wide service network. Fitting quality matters as much as the brand: gas leaks are often traced to pipes that were not vacuumed when the unit was put up.
What to check before you order
- Tonnage against room size, sun and floor level.
- A T3 compressor if the outdoor unit sits in direct sun.
- Heat-and-cool in the model name if you want winter heating.
- Warranty terms for that exact model.
- Your home's voltage: if it drops badly in summer, plan a stabilizer or main-line voltage protector.

What size AC do I need for a 12x14 room?
A 12x14 room is 168 sq ft, which falls in the usual 1.5 ton band of 120 to 180 sq ft. If the room is on the top floor, has a west-facing wall or gets direct afternoon sun, as many Multan rooms do, a 2 ton unit will hold the temperature better on 45 °C days. A smaller AC in a hot room runs flat out and saves nothing.
Is an inverter AC worth it in Pakistan?
Usually yes, if you run the AC for several hours a day. An inverter slows its compressor once the room is cool: the Gree GS-18PITH11S drops as low as 350 W against a 1,450 W rated input. A non-inverter switches between full power and off. The saving shrinks if you use the AC only a few hours a week.
Can I use an inverter AC for heating in winter?
Only if it is a heat-and-cool (heat pump) model, so check the product name or spec list. In heat mode a good inverter gives about three units of heat for each unit of electricity, based on Gree's listed figures of 5,300 W of heat for 1,600 W of input. Multan's mild winters suit this well.
What does T3 mean on an AC?
T3 is a hot-climate rating for the compressor. A T3 unit is designed to keep cooling when outdoor temperatures are very high, which matters in Multan, where the outdoor unit often sits on a roof or wall in direct sun. Many of the inverter ACs in our range carry T3 in the name. It does not change the tonnage you need.
Do I need a stabilizer for an inverter AC?
Not always. Inverter ACs generally tolerate a wider voltage range than older fixed-speed units, but the range varies by model, so check the spec sheet. If your voltage swings a lot, a main-line over and under voltage protector guards the whole house. If you buy a stabilizer, size it above the AC's rated load and check its low-voltage cut-off.
