What size air fryer do I need?

Basket sizeTypical use (rule of thumb)Example
3 to 4.5 LSnacks for one or two peoplePhilips NA-110 (3.2 L, 1,300 W)
5 to 6.5 LFries or wings for a small familyWestpoint WF-5253 (6 L, 1,900 W)
7 to 8 LLarger families, whole chicken piecesWestpoint WF-5257 (8 L, 1,700 W)

Food needs space for hot air to move, so an overfilled small basket cooks unevenly. If in doubt, go one size up. For traditional frying, the Anex AG-2012 is a 2.5 litre deep fryer rated 1,800 W.

How many units does an air fryer use?

Estimate: a 1,500 W air fryer running for 20 minutes uses 1.5 kW x 0.33 h = 0.5 unit, about Rs 17 at Rs 33.10 a unit (201 to 300 slab, as of October 2026, NEPRA tariff decision, February 2026). Cooking longer or at a higher wattage raises it in proportion, and preheating, where your model needs it, adds a few minutes.

What to check before you buy an air fryer

  • Temperature range and timer: the Westpoint WF-5253 lists 80 to 200 °C, and the WF-5257 a 60-minute timer.
  • Safety cut-off: the WF-5257 switches off when you pull out the basket.
  • Cleaning: Philips lists dishwasher-safe parts for the NA-110.
  • Controls: digital models from Anex, Beetro, Electrolux and Kenwood offer presets, while dial models are simpler.
  • Counter space, with room behind for the hot air outlet.

Air fryer or microwave with air fryer?

A stand-alone air fryer heats quickly and suits small batches. If you also want to reheat and bake, a convection microwave oven with an air fryer function does more jobs in one box. See also kitchen appliances and our buying guides.

Frequently asked questions

Which size air fryer is right for a family of four?

As a rule of thumb, a 5 to 6.5 litre basket suits a family of four for fries, wings or kebabs in one batch. In our range, the Westpoint WF-5253 is 6 litres and the Xiaomi Smart Air Fryer comes in 5.5 and 6.5 litre versions. For whole chicken pieces or bigger batches, look at 7 to 8 litre models.

How many units does an air fryer use?

Multiply wattage by time. A 1,500 W air fryer running for 20 minutes uses about 0.5 unit, roughly Rs 17 at Rs 33.10 a unit (201 to 300 slab, October 2026), before tax. Models in our range are rated from about 1,200 W to 2,000 W, so the cost per batch stays small.

Air fryer or microwave: which should I buy?

They do different jobs. A microwave reheats and defrosts quickly, while an air fryer crisps food with hot air and little or no oil. If you want one appliance for both, a convection microwave with an air fryer function, such as the Haier HMW-30AFS, covers reheating, baking and air frying.

Which air fryer brands do you stock?

We stock Westpoint, Anex, Philips, Dawlance, Beetro, Braun, Homage, Xiaomi, Electrolux and Kenwood. Westpoint has the widest choice of basket sizes, up to 8 litres. Philips and Xiaomi offer smaller and smart models. Compare capacity and wattage on each spec sheet.
